The ‘Shadow President’: How billionaire media moguls are shaping Trump’s global agenda
"Donald Trump is not the one truly making decisions in the US. There are people in the... core and in the grey zone. Some of them we already know"

Experts and journalists are struggling to understand the thought process of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump. On one hand, he has proclaimed the MAGA slogan ("Make America Great Again"). On the other, many of his actions since returning to the White House seem to exacerbate the country's problems and even jeopardize its future stability. One of the most recent and characteristic examples is the joint attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, which began on February 28. It is already apparent that the lightning strike operation failed to achieve its goals. Iran did not succumb, and the conflict continues. Trump—and with him the United States—appears to be gradually losing ground. Comments questioning the competence of the 47th president are becoming increasingly frequent. However, some analysts and observers maintained from the start the view that Donald Trump functions more as a "puppet," forced to sign executive orders and implement decisions made behind the scenes. After all, even before the Trump era, many believed that American presidents were not entirely free in their political choices and decisions.

Nevertheless, Trump represents perhaps the most striking example of this view. It is likely that in the near future, serious analysts and experts will gradually shift their focus from Donald Trump himself to those who propelled him to the White House and who—according to many—stand behind his decisions. Several theories are already circulating regarding this issue. Already during last year's so-called "Twelve-Day War"—the US-Israeli military operation against Iran—many articles were published in which the 47th US president was portrayed as a "puppet" in the hands of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This specific theory returned to the fore after the start of the new US-Israeli offensive. For instance, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on March 2 that the United States carried out a "preemptive strike" against Iran because they knew Israel would proceed with an attack regardless. The question arises: does this mean Donald Trump could not deter Israel? And if so, how can one not conclude that Benjamin Netanyahu exercises significant influence over the White House?

Grandiose statements

There is some truth in such grandiose statements. However, we should not exaggerate the role and importance of the Israeli Prime Minister. In a sense, he is also a puppet. Someone behind the scenes pulls the strings that allow for the control of both puppets. We would divide what is usually called the "world behind the cameras" into two parts: the "core," which one cannot see with the naked eye, and the "grey zone," where certain things can still become visible, even without special means. The "grey zone" can be considered a transmission mechanism between the "core" (which may also be called the "backstage" or the "Deep State") and public politicians: presidents, prime ministers, chancellors, and decorative monarchs. We will not speak of the "core" now. We will focus on the "grey zone."

First of all, this is the world of money. This world is represented both by institutions (banks, stock exchanges, investment funds, financial companies) and by specific individuals. The latter are called representatives of the financial oligarchy, billionaires, or "lords of money." Following orders from the "core," the "lords of money" buy politicians—paying lobbyists, financing election campaigns, and boosting their television profiles. At the same time, they direct the media in a direction that ensures the effective implementation of the "Deep State's" plans. We will now move from general observations to a more specific analysis of the key figures and institutions of the "grey zone," as well as their role in starting and maintaining the "permanent" war in the Middle East.

A particularly interesting source of information on this subject is the website of MintPress News, an independent journalism organization that monitors the situation in the United States and across the globe. MintPress News stands in contrast to the leading American media outlets and offers alternative assessments of American and international events, including revelations about the criminal policies of the Zionist establishment. Alan McLeod, a regular contributor to MintPress News, has pointed out the sharp strengthening of pro-Israel sentiment in the American and global media landscape in recent years. He wrote about this in his recent article titled "The seven richest billionaires are all media barons." In this article, the positions of the seven richest people in the world (as of late 2025) toward Israel's policies in the Middle East are analyzed, arguing that these multi-billionaires provide strong support to the Netanyahu regime. One of the most important forms of support is the promotion of pro-Israel ideology through the media. Their goal is to completely monopolize control over the global information space by buying media—primarily news organizations—as well as broader information infrastructure: social networks, instant messaging services, and technical means of communication.

Illusion of choice

Alan MacLeod comments on the concentration of the media in the hands of a small group of oligarchs: "In the media, we already suffered from the illusion of choice. However, the excessive concentration of ownership of American and global media in the hands of a handful of people has exacerbated this problem even further. People seeking alternative views once simply turned to the internet. But with increasing censorship of different or dissenting views—especially on the Israel/Palestine issue—this option is becoming less and less viable." MacLeod focuses on the so-called "Big Seven," namely the following among the richest people on the planet (according to Forbes and Fortune magazines): Elon Musk, Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bernard Arnault. These seven billionaires hold more wealth than the poorest 50% of humanity—meaning more than four billion people. They buy a wide variety of assets worldwide—banking and industrial organizations, land, and natural resources. In recent years, however, they have begun acquiring media outlets with unprecedented speed.

If it was previously said that "power belongs to those with money," today it is increasingly said that "power belongs to those who control information." It is worth noting that of the aforementioned "Big Seven," six are considered citizens of the United States, while only one—Bernard Arnault—is a French citizen. Many members of this group have for years been among the most powerful factors in global media. For example, the world's richest man, Elon Musk, became a media tycoon when he acquired the social network Twitter (renamed X in 2023) for 44 billion dollars in 2022. Mark Zuckerberg is a co-founder of the company Meta Platforms and the namesake social network, formerly known as Facebook. Larry Page and Sergey Brin are the creators and primary owners of the Google Search engine. Jeff Bezos was an early investor in Google and in 2013 bought The Washington Post for 250 million dollars. Bernard Arnault exercises significant influence over French media. He holds major stakes in publications such as Les Echos (France's most important financial newspaper), Le Journal du Dimanche, Le Parisien, Paris Match magazine, as well as the radio stations Europe 1 and Radio Classique, among others. The only billionaire from the "Big Seven" who until recently lacked a significant presence in the media space was Larry Ellison. Incidentally, he ranks second after Elon Musk in terms of net worth, estimated at approximately 287 billion dollars.

He is the exception

However, this no longer seems to be an exception. Last fall, the 81-year-old billionaire and co-founder of the globally known software and server provider Oracle, Larry Ellison, shifted his interest from corporate software to the media space. He announced investments in media assets such as TikTok, CBS, and Paramount. With this move, he signaled his intention to expand beyond the technology sector and strengthen his influence in the media sphere. His son, David Ellison, has already gained control of Paramount and CBS through Skydance Media, as part of an 8 billion dollar deal. Among the potential next targets is reportedly Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns CNN. The American press is intensely discussing Larry Ellison's plans, as well as those of other major billionaires, to acquire significant media assets. These discussions are primarily from a business perspective—market redistribution, profitability, etc. I will, however, leave these details out of the discussion. Unfortunately, very few experts ask the question: how can such a development affect humanity?

To answer this, one needs to examine the ideological views of powerful financial actors. Alan MacLeod analyzes one important aspect of the ideological positions of the aforementioned billionaires and media moguls: their stance toward Israel and Zionism. The conclusion reached by Alan MacLeod is as follows: "…a key characteristic uniting many of the world's richest people is their fervent support for Israel and its expansionist project." And, according to him, this applies to the seven richest people in the world. I will quote some facts and excerpts from his article concerning only the two richest people. Elon Musk visited Israel in 2023 to meet with Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog to express his full support for their operations in Gaza. He characterized Hamas as "evil" and stated that it "enjoys the killing of civilians." This visit took place after four weeks of Israeli attacks on Gaza. At that time, Israeli bombardments had already claimed the lives of at least 20,000 people. Musk subsequently pledged to support the campaign of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip. During his visit, he also signed an agreement with the Israeli government granting it control over Starlink gateways in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

As for the second richest person in the world, Larry Ellison, who is of Jewish descent, "he has made it his life's goal to promote the interests of the Jewish state both domestically and abroad." Ellison is a steadfast supporter of both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. In fact, he maintains a close relationship with Trump and helped him win the 2024 presidential election. It is said that Trump gives particular weight to Ellison's advice—to such an extent that some observers call him the "shadow president of the United States." Ellison is also the largest private donor to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2017, he announced a donation of 16.6 million dollars for the construction of a new training center for IDF soldiers, whom he described as defenders of "our home." At a charity event, he explained: "In every dangerous period since the founding of Israel, we call upon the brave men and women of the Israel Defense Forces to defend our home. In my opinion, there is no greater honor than supporting some of the bravest people in the world. I thank the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces for allowing us to honor and support these soldiers year after year. We must do everything we can to show these heroic soldiers that they are not alone."

Pro-Palestinian positions

Larry Ellison is also setting his company, Oracle Corporation, in order by firing, for example, employees who express pro-Palestinian positions. Oracle's CEO, Safra Catz, who is an Israeli citizen, is also considered a close friend of Benjamin Netanyahu and exerts every effort to fulfill what is presented as a "holy mission" of supporting Israel. Journalist Alan MacLeod writes on this: "Together, Catz and Ellison implemented a strict policy of support for Israel throughout the company. Following the violence of October 2023, Catz ordered the message 'Oracle supports Israel' to appear on company computer screens in more than 180 countries." Even corporate media have reported extensively that the Ellison family's entry into the media space was motivated by their desire to help Israel in the public relations war—a war that, according to several estimates, Israel is currently losing. As Jonathan Greenblatt, director of the pro-Israel organization Anti-Defamation League (one of the most intensely pro-Zionist organizations in the US), put it: "We have a real problem with TikTok—a problem with Gen Z." He explained that young people around the world are exposed daily to videos showing Israeli aggression, something which, in his view, constitutes a serious blow to Zionists.

Observers also point out that the acquisition of media assets by the Ellison family is being carried out with the help—and possibly at the personal request—of the American president. The American broadcaster CBS has already passed under the control of the Ellison family. Bari Weiss was appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News, and viewers and listeners stated they immediately noticed the change. MacLeod reveals some details regarding the appointment: "Weiss first became known to the general public when she was still a student, founding an organization that called for the firing of Muslim and Arab professors because of their pro-Palestinian views. As the Financial Times noted, 'Weiss gained Ellison's favor in part thanks to her pro-Israel stance, according to people familiar with the matter.' Last week, at the Jewish Leadership Conference, she stated that she sees her mission at CBS as an attempt to 'redefine the boundaries of acceptable discussion' in the United States, marginalizing voices like Hasan Piker and Tucker Carlson and highlighting 'charismatic' leaders like Alan Dershowitz, who, she argued, expresses 'the vast majority of Americans'."
