Polling shock for New Democracy - Plunge of 18% from the 2023 elections, the end of the false dilemma “Mitsotakis or chaos” - Loses 50 MPs

Polling shock for New Democracy - Plunge of 18% from the 2023 elections, the end of the false dilemma “Mitsotakis or chaos” - Loses 50 MPs
On the one hand OPEKEPE and the agricultural issue and on the other hand high prices have created wounds in the electoral body of New Democracy that do not heal

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis may have tried, over tea and sympathy at Maximos Mansion, to reassure his MPs, even expressing the wish that they be more numerous in the next Parliamentary Group, but the truth is that when they look at the polls, they are anything but calm.
And this comes at a time when Maximos Mansion is setting up a new narrative cycle, leaning on these polls without wanting to admit that the needle is stuck and when it moves, it goes downward.
Whatever benefits were recorded from the energy agreements tend to disappear, and harsh everyday reality has returned, and indeed with savage intent.
On the one hand OPEKEPE and the agricultural issue and on the other hand high prices have created wounds in the electoral body of New Democracy that do not heal.

They read what they want

In all this, the government insists on reading the measurements while making a mistake in interpretation, since the big picture has not yet been formed, with parties waiting for their creation. At Maximos Mansion they insist on focusing on the snapshot of the moment, arguing that New Democracy maintains a strong double digit lead over PASOK, with Greek Solution and Course of Freedom gaining strength from the condition of the agricultural mobilizations.

Drop of over 18%

The reality is that New Democracy is in its seventh year of governance and theoretically has a loss of approximately 13 percentage points from the result it recorded in the national elections, where it had exceeded 40%.
The truth is that this is not accurate, as they refer to vote estimation. The truth is that New Democracy has lost approximately 18% of its percentage, which means that a year and some before the elections, its plunge is large despite the absence of opposition and the fragmentation of forces.

All the efforts that were made barely moved the needle, while whatever measures were taken in the right direction evaporated under the weight of revelations of various scandals that had Maximos Mansion at their center.

This seems to have entered the subconscious of citizens and leaves a lasting imprint, which has troubled Mitsotakis, who despite what he claims knows that in 2026 or 2027, if he goes to the polls then, he will have no relation to 2023.
And although the narrative of stability or chaos is being attempted to be relaunched and to capitalize on the success of Kyriakos Pierrakakis at the Eurogroup, these cannot erase mistakes, omissions, and what has been recorded in the subconscious of citizens, which polls show their anger.
To the false dilemma Mitsotakis or chaos, they respond by saying Mitsotakis should leave, and from there a solution will be found.

How many are elected

For their part, New Democracy MPs, especially in constituencies where New Democracy had many MPs, view what the polls record with terror. And this is because in the best case scenario they have in their hands, New Democracy elects 119-123 MPs. This means that approximately 50 MPs will not re enter Parliament. And this is not something that subsides with promises and lucky charms handed out by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
They themselves know, especially in the provinces, that the climate is explosive against them and that whatever is said from Maximos Mansion, most live with the fear of disapproval, and indeed in public view.
If, moreover, to the above is added the anxiety over the entry into the ballots of figures favored by Maximos Mansion, then the exercise becomes more difficult and the holidays, which for many are a joy, for them have turned into an ordeal.

With their voters groaning under high prices and roadblocks, the exercise is difficult to complete, and despite the injections being made, the new parties that are coming will overturn what until now has been given and entrenched in the polls.

Political change wanted by 62%, 71% see the country heading in the wrong direction - The findings of Metron Analysis

In the most recent poll, that of Metron Analysis, which was published on the evening of Thursday (18/12), 71% of respondents believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction, while only 24% answer “toward the right one”.
72% judge the government’s work negatively and only 23% hold the opposite view. These specific percentages are the highest and the lowest of the six month period.
Correspondingly similar are the percentages for Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as 69% have a negative view and 26% a positive one.

The biggest problem remains high prices at 45%, followed by the economy at 34%. The crisis of institutions is in third place, corruption in fourth, and insecurity in fifth.
At the same time, the majority of citizens side with the struggle of the farmers. 81% consider their demands fair and only 17% judge them excessive. It is characteristic that the majority of respondents, regardless of their political self placement and social affiliation, side with them. A similar picture appears in a related question about the roadblocks. 63% believe that this form of mobilization is justified, in contrast to 35% who judge it unjustified. Opposed to this specific action are centrists right, right wing voters, and those belonging to the upper class.

Zoe Konstantopoulou most popular, “no one” most suitable

The above are also reflected in the popularity of political leaders. There, at the top, is Zoe Konstantopoulou with 40%, followed by Dimitris Koutsoumbas, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Sokratis Famellos, and Alexis Haritsis.
In the question of who is most suitable for prime minister, “No one” remains at the top for another month. Kyriakos Mitsotakis is first among political leaders with 26%, and second is Zoe Konstantopoulou. Notable is the presence of Alexis Tsipras in third place with 7%, the same as Nikos Androulakis.

New Democracy remains first in voting intention, but shows losses of 1,6%. Specifically, it gathers 21%, with PASOK second at 11%. Significant gains compared to November are recorded by Course of Freedom (+2,1%) and Greek Solution (1,2%).
In vote estimation, New Democracy is first with 27%, followed by PASOK with 14,1%. Third is Course of Freedom with 12,5% and fourth Greek Solution with 11,6%. Also entering Parliament are the Communist Party of Greece, SYRIZA, Voice of Reason, and MeRA25.
