A dangerous group of sunspots of incredible size has appeared on the Sun! – When it will become visible from Earth
A massive group of sunspots has formed on the far side of the Sun, which will become visible from Earth in a week.

A massive group of sunspots has formed on the far side of the Sun, triggering intense concern within the scientific community as it could potentially evolve into one of the most dangerous in recent years. According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this gigantic active region was recorded by the Solar Orbiter spacecraft and is already being characterized as exceptionally powerful.

Scientists point out that the overall scale of a sunspot group is directly linked to the intensity of the solar flares it can generate. These flares draw their energy from the Sun's magnetic field, and the larger the active region, the more powerful the subsequent phenomena usually manifest. As they explain, the strongest solar eruptions historically recorded have originated from regions containing colossal sunspots.

This new region of activity is already being compared to a corresponding phenomenon observed two years ago, when successive powerful flares triggered the largest magnetic storm seen in the past two decades. Experts estimate that this specific group will become visible from Earth within the coming days, while roughly one week later it will rotate directly opposite our planet—a positioning considered the most critical for potential terrestrial impacts.

At the same time, researchers emphasize that the evolution of the phenomenon remains highly uncertain. The active region could either decay significantly or, conversely, undergo further intensification, unleashing vast amounts of energy through powerful solar flares and associated coronal mass ejections.

Severe solar eruptions are capable of triggering geomagnetic storms on Earth, heavily impacting power grids, communication networks, and satellite navigation systems. In extreme cases, these events can lead to structural damage in industrial electrical grids and widespread radio communication blackouts. Concurrently, heightened solar activity frequently results in spectacular auroral displays visible much further south than usual. However, the extent to which geomagnetic storms directly affect human health remains a subject of ongoing scientific investigation.
