Shocking revelation: Secret Russia–USA communication channel for a Putin–Trump Summit – Zelensky on the sidelines
Despite the delays observed after the cancellation of the Summit in Budapest, the prospect of a meeting between Putin and Trump remains on the table.

A parallel communication channel between Russia and the USA regarding the Ukrainian issue and the global security architecture has been revealed.

This channel aims to bypass all those seeking to torpedo a fair and sustainable peace solution for Ukraine—and not just a ceasefire that would spark new wars—such as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Zelensky, and the war party in Europe, with the prominent French President Emmanuel Macron.

Key figures in this “secret” communication channel are, on Moscow’s side, Vladimir Putin’s close associate and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, and from the USA, the special envoy of President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff.

Despite the obstacles posed by war-mongering European leaders, diplomacy appears to remain alive.

Dmitriev’s trip to the USA may historically prove significant, as Putin and Trump appear to be approaching an agreement for a bilateral meeting, while the issue of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s participation remains open, although all indications suggest he will ultimately be excluded.

This would therefore be a bilateral summit, likely to take place in Turkey, and not a trilateral one.

This strategy implies that Russia and the United States may be closer to an agreement than Ukraine, and that a diplomatic solution to the conflict may require removing Kyiv from the process.

Putin–Trump Summit remains on the table despite obstacles – Dmitriev: Summit necessary

Despite the delays observed after the cancellation of the Summit in Budapest, the prospect of a meeting between Putin and Trump remains on the table.

Dmitriev, special representative of Putin, stated from the USA that the meeting between the two leaders was not canceled but merely postponed due to the need for further negotiations regarding the organizational details.

This meeting is considered critical, as it could constitute the first step toward restoring relations between Russia and the USA after several years of tension.

Dmitriev’s comments indicate that Moscow considers the Putin–Trump meeting essential not only for resolving the conflict in Ukraine but also for recognizing Russia’s geopolitical interests in the region.

For Moscow, the critical issue is not simply a ceasefire but the final resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

Dmitriev explicitly stated that while a ceasefire may offer temporary relief, it will not resolve the fundamental political and territorial issues that continue to fuel the war.

From the Russian perspective, the ultimate goal is to secure a permanent solution that guarantees the safety of Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine and confirms Russia’s geopolitical influence in the region.

“I believe that Russia, the USA, and Ukraine are close to a diplomatic agreement,” Dmitriev said.

Russia does not want just a ceasefire but a final resolution of the conflict,” he added.

This position underscores the divide between Russia and the West. While the USA and NATO focus on supporting Ukraine, Russia seeks to influence Kyiv’s political course, particularly regarding its relations with NATO and the West.

Strategic shift – Zelensky excluded from talks, Russia–USA consider him finished

Alexei Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Russian Duma, expressed his belief that a summit between Putin and Trump could occur faster than a meeting including Zelensky.

Chepa noted that Ukraine is under serious pressure from NATO and its allies, particularly the USA, making it extremely difficult for Zelensky to negotiate with Russia without reliance on Washington and the North Atlantic Alliance.

Ukraine is under great pressure from all USA allies in NATO,” Chepa explained.

“It is very difficult to separate Zelensky from them. That is why I believe that Putin and Trump will agree on a bilateral meeting much faster than one with Zelensky,” he noted.

This statement reflects a growing trend in the Russian political scene suggesting that a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine issue may require a stronger bilateral approach between Russia and the USA, with Ukraine possibly relegated to a secondary role in the negotiations.

The deeper connection of the USA with Ukraine through military aid and political support limits Kyiv’s flexibility to act independently in negotiations with Russia.

Cancellation of the Budapest Summit

On October 23, 2025, Trump announced the cancellation of the scheduled meeting with Putin in Budapest.

The American President explained that he felt the two sides had not achieved the desired objectives.

However, he indicated that the meeting would take place in the future, implying that the diplomatic door has not closed.

Putin, on the other hand, downplayed the cancellation, describing it as a postponement rather than a definitive cancellation.

Commenting on Trump’s statements, the Russian President noted that discussions with his American counterpart can proceed, but only once the necessary conditions are set.

Moreover, the American government considers that a potential new meeting between Putin and Trump remains on the table but must be well-prepared to yield tangible and positive results.

As stated by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the meeting has not been entirely ruled out, with the Trump administration seeking to ensure that any meeting would have substantial and positive impact, justifying the President’s time investment.

In general, the American side expresses hope that such a meeting, when held, will lead to constructive developments, and it is no coincidence that this statement was issued almost simultaneously with Dmitriev’s arrival in the USA.

The role of Ukraine in the diplomatic equation

Zelensky’s role in a potential diplomatic solution remains a subject of intense discussion.

Although Chepa’s statements suggest that a Putin–Trump meeting may occur more easily without Zelensky’s participation, it is clear that Ukraine’s fate cannot be detached from broader diplomatic discussions.

The USA strongly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty, providing military and political aid.

Therefore, an agreement that entirely excludes Ukraine would likely not be accepted by the West, particularly NATO and the war party in Europe, with France taking a leading role, prepared to send troops, Mirage aircraft, and missiles to Ukraine.

However, the increasing alignment between Russia and the USA may force Zelensky to follow a more realistic course.

Despite his contradictions and vehement opposition to Russia, Zelensky may ultimately be forced to adapt to the geopolitical conditions imposed by his powerful allies.
