Unbelievable: Overtime and night shifts at Economic Crime Prosecutor's Office due to heavy workload
An overtime work crew is being set up for the period from October 30 to December 31, 2026

Employees of the Department of Economic Crime of the Athens Court of Appeals Prosecutor's Office are placed on overtime duty, even during night hours, Sundays, and public holidays, in order to address the increased volume of work and pressing service needs.
By decision of the head of the Department, an overtime work crew is being set up for the period from October 30 to December 31, 2026.
The primary reason for the decision is the understaffing of the service, which is called upon to manage a large number of case files and documents, holding jurisdiction that extends across the entire country.
Concurrently, a significant burden was caused by changes brought about by Law 4745/2020 to the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Under these specific provisions, the powers of the Corruption Prosecutor were merged with those of the Economic Crime Prosecutors, resulting in the transfer of a large number of cases from the former Corruption Prosecutor's Office to the service, many of which had been designated as urgent.
This development further increased the already particularly heavy workload of the staff, making it necessary to reinforce the operation of the Department through overtime, night shifts, and work during exempt days.
Of course, what is of great interest is whether this increased workload also includes major cases of tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering that have reached the Prosecutor's Office.
