BN revelation: 13 MPs from ND, PASOK, former SYRIZA, and OPEKEPE in new, heavy case file by European Public Prosecutor's Office

The cases concern the year 2022 and the Financial Police have also been involved, drafting a report

A new case file regarding OPEKEPE is currently, according to information, in the final stage of processing and review by the European Public Prosecutor's Office before being transmitted to Parliament with requests for immunity lifting. As the same sources report, the referral document from the Financial Police, following an investigation ordered by the European Public Prosecutor's Office, shows involvement in the case of ten MPs from New Democracy, some of whom were also included in the previous case file sent to Parliament, two from PASOK, and one MP from SYRIZA (he was in 2021 and is currently with another party), as well as numerous administrative officials from OPEKEPE, some of whom hold positions of responsibility at IAPD.

The Financial Police audit for 2022

The audit concerns the year 2022 and comes following the completion of the 2021 case. However, the missteps resulting from the sloppiness demonstrated by the Financial Police in the 2021 case have made the European Public Prosecutor's Office more cautious and the Financial Police more meticulous. Of course, regarding the latter, they may have been more careful and diligent this time in reviewing wiretaps and other evidence gathered within the framework of the European Public Prosecutor's Office investigation. On the other hand, the European Public Prosecutor's Office also does not appear satisfied with relying solely on the conclusions of the Financial Police and is employing experts to review them and verify whether they are substantiated.

"Heavy" case file

In any case, information indicates that the offenses described are not of equal severity for all individuals involved. However, the new case file is "heavier" than the previous one, as there is additional material from wiretaps as well as processed data collected by the Prosecutor's Office itself or OLAF, which has been involved in the inquiries. The exact timeline for when the new case file will reach Parliament cannot be determined with precision, given the heavy workload at the European Public Prosecutor's Office alongside other ongoing case files concerning OPEKEPE (e.g., Eco-schemes) — and beyond.

Footnote: The names of those alleged to be involved have come to the knowledge of BN. However, they are not being published, given that the process has not been finalized.
