The richest man in the world emerges as the largest donor in the US midterm elections
American entrepreneur Elon Musk emerged as the largest among known donors in the current election cycle in the United States, channeling more than $445 million into the midterm elections, according to CNN citing Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. Earlier, The New York Times, citing representatives of the businessman, had reported that during the 2025–2026 cycle Musk spent approximately $366 million for political purposes, noting that he also made undisclosed donations. However, CNN, following the release of the federal commission's final report, calculated the total sum at more than $445 million.
"This investment made the richest man in the world the largest among licensed/disclosed donors in the midterm elections, which will determine which party controls Congress during the final two years of President Donald Trump's stay in the White House," the television network reported. During the first two weeks of October alone, Musk added another $76.8 million to his previous investments. The report highlights that the largest portion of his contributions was funneled with the objective of helping Republicans retain control of the US Senate. The midterm elections in the US will take place on November 3. American citizens will decide on the new composition of the House of Representatives, as well as the fate of 33 seats in the Senate, with both Houses currently controlled by Republicans.
